OT ~ I need some new Tongs

I know this may sound trivial but I need some new tongs. Mine broke a little while back and I'm having a heckuva time finding a replacement set. The more I get into this Eggin thing, the more particular I have become about these sorta things. I know ... it's just a set of tongs, right? Not really. I have stopped by several large department stores and just can't find any to my liking. I'd like something slim to fit my smaller hands but am looking for a set that is a tad on the longer side to stay away from the heat as much as possible. It has become a quest to find that perfect set of tongs! What are my fellow Eggheads using for tongs and where should I be looking to find them? TIA

Get the BGE ones. They're expensive but they are well made and worth it. I use mine to pick up my large cast iron grate and they don't bend. They are also long.

I tend to lean toward the cheap ones. Yes, they don't last as long. But then, kinda like reading glasses, I drop them, sit on them, etc.

Look no further! Got these for the eggin'....They're extremely heavy duty and dirt cheap. I like to keep around 3 pair on the egg table.

These are the best! I've had mine for probably about 6 or 7 years. Before that, I worked in a restaurant and I ran the grill. When I quit, the tongs came with me. I broke the tips off of them because they seem to pinch the meat. They just work better without the tip.

While I use those from time to time I much prefer to use my pigtail flippers! With a mere flip of the wrist I can quickly and easily flip wings, brats, steaks whatever with them. Amazon even carries them. I have eyed up the pigtail flippers a time or two, just afraid to try something different I guess. Right now I'm looking for tongs but 1st chance I get I might give the pigtails a run.

If you ever see someone using one just ask to try it - you'll be amazed at how versatile they are. I even flip pancakes with mine! Just so you know these hooks are curled for right handed people, but if you buy directly from pigtail flipper they also make them for left handed folks too. HTH

While holding the tool in your right hand and looking down the shaft the curl at the end is bent clockwise for the right handed models, but counter clockwise for left handed. Make sense?

I'm partial to my Oxo tongs. They work well, go in the dishwasher and are pretty cheap. I've had the fancy ones from William Sonoma and didn't like them.

For steaks and chops, the pig tail is ideal. For tongs, the clam shells (Weber) are good for larger veggies, but I like the square end (Cuisinart) style for large meat chunks.

@RRP has it right, was funny as hell watching my southpaw son try to flip some chops.

My wife bought me the BGE pigtail flippers a few years back and never got around to opening it up. Might have to give it a go

Pigtails are the way to go IMHO. Thats all I use during competition. It doesn't distrub the bark on the ribs or the glaze on the chicken. They come in all different sizes, for differet meats. Better than tongs for me. If you still want tongs any kitchen supy store will have the cheap.

OP, if you have an Academy store, get a couple of their tongs. Best one ever and made out of the thickest material I have seen so far. And dirt cheap.

i have those same ones except mine are probably 50 years old, probably not the same company but same design, still work like new

Fishlessman those are the same as I have they are great and can also be used as a spoon to apply BBQ sauce or marinade to what ever your cooking

Man... It never ends. I saw a reference to pigtails on another site, thought I'd search this site for opinions. Didn't take long to order a couple. After my first caveman steak last week, I realized that I needed something to reach in there and flip. This should do the trick just fine. This Egg stuff is addicting.
