Both last night and just now, after shutting the down the egg I have heard a loud snapping type of noise. The temp on the dome both times was 100 or less...
Both days I only had the egg up to about 500 max.
Concerned as this base is only a week old along with my gasket. I know my fire box was cracked when I took it out for the base swap. The dealer has one for me next time I'm out there.
I don't see any cracks on the base anywhere. Could it be the firebox crack expanding?
Anyone else hear sounds like this when your egg is just about cooled off?
Thanks
H

I'd check your base very carefully for cracks. The only two times I've heard something like what you describe, the base was cracked. I hope not!The Naked Whiz

Thanks... I didn't see anything on the bottom like last time and the outside of the base looks good all around so far. Maybe I'll see something different in the sunlight tomorrow. The Naked Whiz said:I'd check your base very carefully for cracks. That would suck... Maybe it's the firebox?MSV Chill Spot

I've had that happen a couple of times on my large as well but can't explain it. The day after, I took out the leftover lump, all the innards and couldn't find a crack in anything, nor the base. It is unnerving for sure.

I doubt it's the firebox. Might be the lower band assembly expanding and contracting around the new base.Ajax, ON Canada(XL BGE, MED BGE, La Caja China #2, and the wife's Napoleon gasser)

I guess the bands expanding and contracting could be it... it's pretty loud when it happens. The new base was a little over a 1/4" bigger than my original so I know the bottom band was re-adjusted. The tech went over the entire assembly and tightened up everything that could be done...
Hopefully tomorrow I'll find nothing
