Hello,
Anyone see this ad? What do you all think?
FORESTLUMPS offers PURE 100% NATURAL HARDWOOD LUMP BBQ CHARCOAL (from Balkan forests of European Beechwood). From our virtually unlimited sustainable harvest of forest waste we produce QUALITY BEECH LUMP CHARCOAL packaged in BOXED BAGS (in the USA) to ensure product integrity (trans-Atlantic shipped in Big Bags), sifted fines go into our second product offer PURE "C" POTTING SOIL AMENDMENT. Third product offer is bulk "Carbon" for Active Carbon.
CUSTOMER PROBLEM
HARDWOOD LUMP CHARCOAL in the USA is plagued with problems of SUPPLY, QUALITY (high volume of small charcoal fines and dust) and poor characteristics on duration of burn, mean temperature and high ash volume. FORESTLUMPS "trumps" all product problems and complaints implementing quality controlled production utilizing the highest quality of natural (UNPROCESSED) beech wood. We deliver a product worth paying for, to the TOP of the U.S. NICHE MARKET
.Perfect for Big Green Egg cookers and all gravity fed charcoal cookers. I use on my Southern Bred Smoker and it stays within 2 degrees of set temperature for 8 to 10 hours.

$37 to PA. More expensive than the Wegmans RO I've been using, but about what I paid for WGWW, and less than what I've paid for BGE. $1.08 a pound total.__________________________________________It's not a science, it's an art. And it's flawed.- Camp Hill, PA

I'm cheap. I'm going to have to stick with my royal oak from Wal Mart for $10-13 bucks a bag.-Jody Newell (LBGE & a 36" Blackstone griddle).

Got my shipment today, 5 of 10 boxes I ordered showed up. Opened one bag in one box and all I saw was chips. Just received my 4 boxes. Fedex beat them up pretty bad. Opened one bag and poured it out into a flat box to get a look at the contents. Unlike the Naked Whiz review, no large pieces, about 25% medium, 50% small and 25% chips and dust. I just loaded my XLs with Rockwood yesterday so I won't be able to review how it performs until mid next week. I'm guessing that a pallet buy would reduce the amount of small chips and dust due to the fedex shipping.

Looks like a change is in the works. Rebranding?Sorry. @Tjcoley. Saw yours too late.Still, looks shaky to me. Dumping substandard lump and then changing the name.Small (hatched 6/13/2015)

Well, my order arrived this morning. Opened up one of the bags and pleasantly surprised. Looked pretty good size wise.Dumped it out and did a real quick sort. Thats an iPhone 5 for size perspective. While there were no huge pieces (Which to me is good), there were a lot of good sized medium pieces, and about 50% usable small. Not a whole lot of chips or dust. Overall, a good bag. We'll see how it burns in the next day or so.__________________________________________It's not a science, it's an art. And it's flawed.- Camp Hill, PA

@Tjcoley, looking closely at your 3 pictures with the lump spread out on the white background, it looks like there is a fair amount of not fully carbonized wood. Is that just the lighting in the pictures (or my monitor)?LBGE - St. Louis, MO; MM & LBGE - around 8100' somewhere in the CO Front Range
-
It may be the lighting. The lump looked good, with no rocks or other foreign material. There were a couple of small pieces that looked not fully carbonized that I trashed before dumping back in the bag. Overall, a good bag. I'm hoping the others are the same. With the very small amount of dust, I'd dump and light all of it.__________________________________________It's not a science, it's an art. And it's flawed.- Camp Hill, PA

I just moved a pack of 3 boxes (shrink wrapped) and a pack of 2 (shrink wrapped) and it was like picking up rain sticks. I am reserving judgement but at this point I'm pissed off that I just didn't get 200lbs of Ozark Oak shipped for the same price. I'm disgusted.

Unless Forestlumps says otherwise, as far as I know, they are moving this product in order to switch to new packaging. They told me they were going to use slightly larger boxes because they weren't getting a full 20 pounds into the current boxes. (Note that the current boxes say they contain 20 pounds plus/minus 5%).
I received 2 boxes for the review, and I opened 3 of the four bags so far. All 3 were fine.
