Wood chunks - remove bark?
radamo
Posts: 373
Purchased some wood chunks (Apple and Hickory) the other day and went to use it. Saw that many pieces have bark on them. Have seen reference to "no bark" in the boards. Is bark no good for smoking? Should it be removed prior to use?
Thanks,
Rich

Don't know what the experts think; but I never have worried about it... just chuck it in there

I've used wood chunks with bark before... did not make a difference as far as I could tell. However, I don't think it would hurt anything if you felt better by removing the bark first.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------Well, "spa-Peggy" is kind of like spaghetti. I'm not sure what Peggy does different, if anything. But it's the one dish she's kind of made her own.____________________Aurora, Ontario, Canada

Okay, I feel better now. Used a hunk of hickory the other day with bark and the chops were awesome. Thanks,RichLong Island, NY

I cut my own and have never noticed a difference.

I use it however it comes. Bark has never given me an issue either.

I've never had an issue with bark. If it's covered in mold or fungus, I'd probably remove it, though.

what griffin said. You don't want to put mold in the egg.
