Maverick higher than dome temp?

Options
Ok so my picnic ham has been on 2 hours now and my dome reads about 250 but the Mav says 290 and is rising what's up with that? Thought dome was higher than grid??? Ham is at 117 deg. Here is pics of grid and dome thermo.is the cork extension on dome thermo throwing the dome off?

Putting blackberry glaze on soon!!!
Thanks.

In my experience, it is either the thermometer is off or the Mav wire is in a hot spot. Typically try to protect them with the ceramic... place over that if possible-- looks like you are pretty good here. Maybe your grate temp prob is bad. I know some have to replace theirs a few times, but I never have.... knock, knock, knock (wood)

You have an oval plate and it's on the side where it's less indirect so it's reading a little hotter than if you had it on the front.   I wouldn't worry about it, seems normal to me.

So is there a preferred position for accuracy 0f pit probe when using the oval stone?
That said it seems better now that the cork on the dome is out???

    We'll see!
