Reading the forums, it's suggested to put the DFMT on the grid after cooking to get burn up the 'gunk' . I will start doing that now. In the meantime, I just wanted to make sure this is normal.
Thanks!

Yes.
Not to get technical, but according to chemistry alcohol is a solution...

I usually take a syringe and get all of the gunk off dome and shoot it into a shot glass full of vodka on early morning cooks. I call them "Egg Bombs". Try it sometime--- they really get your day going, right @travistrick and @CenTex?

Another good reason not to use the DMFTSalado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Plus a couple Pit Boss Pellet Smokers.

Mine did too. Another egger taught me how to re-season it. Looks good as new."Where the weak grow strong and the strong grow great, Here's to "Down Home," the Old North State!"

FWIW, Not paint. CI seasoning.Just give a light coat of oil, and I don't put mine in the egg till the temp has dropped below 300Bx - > NJ ->TX!!!All to get cheaper brisket!

I throw mine in for an afterburner occasionally with my grids just to keep things clean. Little rust, no worries...-------------------------------------------------------------------------Keywords: Gator, Nashvegas, LBGE, Looftlighter, Thermapen in Racing Green (faster than the red one!), PSWOO2, Spider with CI, IQ120

I'm with @Mickey on this one. Why even bother using the DFMT? I have found that eliminating that variable has helped me maintain temps as low as 180 and as high as ?? I also seem to get a much cleaner burn during long smokes.Transplanted from Austin, Texas to Medina, Ohio

I tried to cook without the DFMT. I couldn't get my temp below 325.
