In Austin neither HD nor Lowes carry them, but Ace Brick does

Check a brickyard. Otherwise, doitbest.com used to have them (splits), free delivery to a participating local hardware store. The splits are half the thickness of full firebricks. Splits should work fine for raising the grid in an egg. Regular bricks wrapped in foil also work fine. They have survived pizza cooks and clean burns in my large.

Northern Tool's set comes with 6 in a box and were roughly 12 bucks.  They will ship for free to the store in a few days.
