Sounds like whining to me because WG is no longer selling to Ace. If you want the lump then order direct. Pretty simple. All other stuff in emails is noise and just a "pissing contest" in my opinion. Much to do about nothing. Like the lump, then buy it...don't like the lump then don't buy it. Pretty simple and no need need to get panties in a wad.

I think ACE has sour grapes on this whole deal and that's why people are getting pissed.

Maybe so...but in this thread, it sounds like the OP is hacked about the travel implications and really, should consider a direct order from WG and save $4 or so a bag. Didn't like the response from WG and looking to throw a bit a gas on the flames. Again, just place a pallet order and get your WG @ $16 per bag and enjoy.

Totally agree. Total bush league for him to post that. He should just mail order it.

Love the bush league reference. Looking at the Clempson Tiger baseball uniforms tonight I was just using the term "bush league" in describing those uniforms. Good reference.

  • The place I get my lump here in Ottawa (Romantic Fireplace) has also stopped selling WG & they also switched the KJ. Weird coincidence or is their something more behind it?   Personally I did not like it. The owner of the store went on and on about how it was the same lump that came from the same production plant bla bla bla but no was is it the same and turns out a lot of customers my self included complained so they are now carrying Dragon's Breath, opened my second bag tonight...... I like it

Lump just isn't cost effective to mail order by the bag unless the seller eats the shipping.  I haven't been able to get Chigger Creek (local seller is flaky and apparently just isn't ordering it) so I looked into ordering direct.  Shipping is more expensive than the lump, and ends up more than doubling the price.  I like Chigger Creek, but not enough to pay more than double for it.

If Wicked isn't carried in your area anymore, just find another brand that is.

You aren't doing it right then. I order by the pallet and it cost us $16 per bag. Cheaper than buying it in the store. Bags are $12 and then another $4 for all the transportation.

I call BS on the its the same comment too and made by the same production plant. Lol. WG has their own recipe so it is a custom blend from somewhere in South America...forget the country now. Never heard of Dragons Breath. Good sounding name though. I'm going to look it up.

Oh definitely BS on it being the same. The KJ may be produced at the same plant but it is NOT! the same blend I could tell from the moment I opened the bag, It did not even smell the same

@4runner . . how many bags come in a pallet of WG and could you please provide info about how to order?  Forgive me if this is previously mentioned, but this thread is long and kind of painful to read.

Sure. Just email WG....but here is the pallet page. http://www.wickedgoodcharcoal.com/pallet_shipping.htm 60 bags to a pallet and they will do half order but your price per bag goes up as shipping cost remains the same. I have them ship it my local terminal and pick it up there and it saves us $100.

I can't handle that sort of bulk order.  A pallet would probably last me a couple years, and I don't have the means to transport 60 bags of lump (picking it up from the local terminal to save on shipping).
  • I'm done with this stuff too.  Horrible ownership / customer service AND the lump pretty much sucks.  At least the stuff in the new blue bags suck.  I posted a month go my WGWW bag of ash.  Now after using it I'm ready to get rid of it.  It takes me an hour + and many attempts to get this stuff up to temperature.  Couple that with this lady and there is no reason to ever buy again.

@njl - you get a group together. We have 8 -10 in our group. It takes a little coordination and work but can't beat the price this way though. @youenjoymyegg - factory screwed up a batch. Our last order is very inconsistent. This has been corrected now so it should be back to normal which is very good.

How long ago was this?  I'm not trying to be disagreeable but this was not my experience. I picked up a bag of the KJ yesterday (had to replace my gasket and my dealer had 1 bag left -so I had to try it out).  Expected it to be like it was last year - OK but unimpressed.   This bag was different.  Had the metallic clank sound to it. nice size pieces. A little slow to light but once lit it burned clean and hot. Not much ash.  It may not be WG, but it's the closest thing to it I've seen ( i've had 3 bags of WG).

It was a little over a month ago. I found it harder to light , it took a long time to burn off VOC  and it sparked like crazy on the first bag the second was a little better but the point was he keep telling me "Oh ya its the exact same lump as WGWW "  As I mentioned they are now stocking DB and I like it

I started buying Wicked Good Weekend Warrior at Ace some months ago and found bag after bag to be sparky crap. I finally realized the hype about WG was BS and went back to buying Royal Oak.

What impeccable timing!... I was just about to post my disappointment with WGWW. I tried it for my last 4 cooks and though the lump size is great, I couldn't get over how hard it was to light. I think the brand is overrated and certainly not worth the 2 hour drive to get it. Personally, I think Maple Leaf lump and Dragons Breath are better options.  The poor customer service just seals the deal for me!
