Could your stat be that far off?? 600 is nothing for an egg to operate at??

thats odd i do mine between 550 to 650 dome finding that 650 seems to be best are you sure your not clocking the dome temp gauge completely around ?Large Big Green Egg , XL Big Green Egg . BBQ Guru, Weber Kettle, Weber Q grill for road trips.

Possible on he first two, in fact I know it wet all the way around to the 300 on the first attempt. But this last one I watched it closely. Never got above 600PROUD MEMBER OF THE WHO DAT NATION!!!!! Stuck in Dallas.......

I'd start by calibrating your thermometer first.I've had my egg over 800 degrees a few times with no issues.

@Alton - how do you bring it up to temp?My suggestion is start your fire, close the dome and open the lower vent about an inch, DFMT on with the petals open. Give it 30-45 minutes. Temp should be in the 400-500 range. adjust and slowly bring it to 600, which is usually with the top off and bottom open 1/2" or slide the petal wheel to the side a bit to improve the air flow. Also could be you've had a bad run of fire rings.Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad!

This is strange, I always do pizza at 700-750 and have had no problems.Killen, AL (The Shoals)XL, Small, Minimax, and Mini BGEs

Just calibrated the dome thermometer , it was only 10 degrees short of 100c at boiling water. This shouldn't make that much of a difference .?.?PROUD MEMBER OF THE WHO DAT NATION!!!!! Stuck in Dallas.......

When you say broke do you mean along the cut lines or shattered?

That is in the new design. They used to just explode. They will provide warranty when they become unusable.
