First Butts on the BGE

Just purchased a XL Egg three weeks ago. I have cooked butts before but this is my first attempt on my Egg. I started them at 7:00 pm last night. It took about an hour to adjust everything just right. I kept my eye on it for about three hours to make sure nothing would change and then set the alarm on the Maverick and went to bed. I woke up at around 5:00 am to find everything was going great; meat @ 160 and Egg holding steady at 235 grate temperature. Do not know what it looks like since I have not picked in. Attached is a picture when they first went on. Will update when done.

  • I just did a couple yesterday. Took them off at 190 internal temperature. Wrap them in foil and stick them in a cooler for 2-3 hours. The meat fell off the phone. Enjoy!

    After a full 18 hours the internal temperature hit 190, removed and wrapped in foil for good rest.
    Just tried a sample it is better than I had expected. 

    I dried rubbed with butt rub 6 hours before I put them on and used about eight hickory chunks mixed in with the lump charcoal.

    If it tastes good to you then that's what matters.  Experiment with other methods, but if so good you can barely stand it, don't change much! LOL
