First Post! Chicken Breasts

Hey all,

Just got my Large BGE and decided to do some chicken breasts as one of my first endeavors. Did 400 degrees for about 40 minutes. Used some shaking the tree on it.

Also did some grilled asparagus tossed in olive oil and lemon juice. Tell me what y'all think!

How do I rotate an image on my iPhone?

    Dude looks beautiful!

Don't think you can rotate the pics from the iphone.  If you get in on a windows PC it is easy to rotate.  In windows explorer just right-click on the thumbnail.

When taking pics from the iphone, make sure the volume buttons are down.

I didn't mind turning my head to see that beautiful first cook.  Nice work!

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

Looks good. Glad to have you on board. Save up some money for a thermopen if you don't have one. Thermopens single-handedly made my chicken cooks perfect.

I am pretty sure if you go into photos on the iPhone you can click Edit at the top and rotate.

Pittsburg rare baby! Get the steaks as close to the coals as you can. Egg at 600-650. Sear the steaks for about 2 mins a side. Pull and eat.

I just use evoo, salt, and pepper.

Check out this for reverse searing steak :

    http://www.amazingribs.com/tips_and_technique/cooking_temperatures_and_reverse_sear.html

Here for the TREX method :

    http://www.nakedwhiz.com/trexsteak.htm

Great info on both. I reverse sear personally.

  • I'm with @Eggcelsior: reverse sear is where it's at, and more importantly, I think it's easier (or was for me).

Nice first showing. Very colorful photo, sharp details. Can't help you with the sideways part. I always upload my photos to photobucket first to crop, resize and edit them. Did you cook the chicken indirect? 40 mintues seems like a long time for a direct cook.

  • Cooked it direct. I actually would cook it less time next time. I keep forgetting that it will continue to cook for a few minutes after you take it off. Also need to get a thermapen to make sure I'm accurate on meat temp

Looks great. Chicken, especially the breast will come out so much better on the egg.  You have got to try a Spatchcock chicken.  It's awesome and only takes right at an hour.

Welcome aboard.  I've had my LBGE for 2 weeks and love it.

Very nice! See what all the fuss is about? See if you can find out about the hot tub method for your first go at steaks. And welcome.

Welcome!  I'm fairly new here too.  You will get lots of advice from friendly folks!

My two cents on the steaks...again as a one still learning the BGE game...try the T-rex method first.  This is a little more forgiving, especially if you are cooking steaks to different temperatures.
