I would like to publicly scold the forum members that raved about Woodford... Dammit, couldn't you praise a cheaper drink? Just poured a quart.

@henapple-You wanna go down the dirt road-wrestle with their Double Oaked-makes regular Woodford bourbon taste like..."Taste is in the buds of the consumer".  But I think it is at a whole new level for them (as do they $$-wise).
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win.  Life is too short for light/lite beer!  Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

+1 on the double oaked!!! From what I think I know about you it would be like comparing Cowboy to Ozark lump. Do I have your attention know? :D:D

I got a wife beater of Woodford once. It was ok but not special. It seemed to have too much of a harsh bite.

Would the double oaked mitigate some of that bite?
Be careful, man! I've got a beverage here.

I come from a long time of Wild Turkey so just about anything seems less harsh. There is something different about double Oaked It still has just a bit of a bite but a smooth bite. I drink on the rocks with just a hit of water.

I'm a big fan of the Knob Creek single barrel...bottled at 120 proof.  I drink it straight over ice; as long as you let it "open up" a little, it goes down smooth.

My neighbor drinks bourbon, sweet vermouth and a little cherry juice. Anyone try that or just on the rocks. I will say the ice is nice in the bottom after finishing.

that's how my old man drinks it. If I don't have it on the rocks I fancy an old fashion occasionally.

I'm a long time Jack Daniel's sipper with a minor in bourbon Manhattans, a 'certificate' in Wild Turkey and boast of a couple of 'affairs' with Scotch. Stuck my toe in some Maker's Mark a few weeks ago, too, and enjoyed that. So. Why do Eggers seem to prefer bourbon? (and really, why not?) What does the 'bourbon crowd' generally think of JD? Scotch? and others? I seem to like them all. Even the cheap stuff after about the third sip ....

Just a random observation in this thread...but I tried Makers 46 recently and I don't like it as much as Makers.  I was just looking at how it is made, and they take makers and then age it longer in "seared french oak".  I think they actually cook the wood that it sits in.  I dunno...I love smoked wood in my meat, but for me didn't care for it in my booze.  I'll save the $10 or so next time and go for the Makers.

I do also love Woodford.  Another great bourbon IMO is Willett Pot Still reserve.  Cool bottle to add to the collection too.

Have tried most I can find at the "LC" - Wild Turkey, Maker's, 4 Roses, Knob Creek but have been partial lately to Elijah Craig.  Named in honour of a Baptist minister, brings me that much closer to heaven I reckon.  And does odd things to the temp gauge.
