Large BGE Handle???
Options
Hi,[p] I have a large Big Green Egg which I need to roll over a very rough surface of flagstones. Grabbing the nest and pulling it and the BGE, especially when hot, is very difficult. I need some sort of long handle that I can attach down low on the nest and thus be able to pull the whole nest and BGE over the very rough surface of flagstones.[p] I have mentioned this to other people who also would like such a handle.[p] Is such an implement available?[p] Thanks![p]--

Peter,
while I can visualize what you mean you would still need to keep a hand on or nearby to grab the egg due to it being top heavy. When the wheels hit the rough terrain it can become topsy-turvy quickly. Perhaps in your case you might want to switch out to larger wheels instead of the small BGE casters.

Peter,
Found some sturdy casters on this site for my gate.
Pneumatic tires would help, maybe save you from tipping it over.

Peter,
If this is a one time move, get 2 sheets of 3/4 inch plywood---roll the egg down the first section onto the second section; then carry the first plywood piece to butt up to the second section, etc. till you get to the eggs nesting area. Get a cover at Wal-mart and leave it be.

Spring Chicken,
Now back to the shop!:>) -RP

Peter,[p]perhaps a piece of rope or small chain fastened to the bottom portion of the frame..? Or the hardware store sells small pieces of iron 1/8" x 1". take some pliers and bend over an end for a handle and attach the other end to the egg frame with a gate hinge.
-
Peter,
I'm not sure I understand why you need to move your egg around, especially when it is hot. Perhaps you need a table.
-
2EggTim,[p]I suggest table with wheel barrow like handles and big wheels. That way the egg can't fall over and you won't get into a situation like all the king's horses and all the king's men...
-
Peter,
I would not attach anything to an Egg that would put me farther than arms reach of it falling over.
-
>> Or the hardware store sells <<[p]mark,[p]Yes, I guess I'll have to go to the friendly hardware store and see what we can come up with.[p]I know other people would also appreciate the tool I'm seeking so I'm very surprised that other people have not developed a handy means of pulling the BGE and nest around. [p]

caboose,[p]get one sheet and cut it in half, you only move 4' at a time vs. 8' . you'll move a 4'x4' piece a whole lot faster than you will a 4'x8' that you'll get the job done quicker. and you'll spend half as much too.

tach18k,[p] I wouldn't be moving a HOT Egg.. I understand moving an egg from storage to cook on, but not a hot egg.[p]

My large big green egg handle has snapped off after ony a few weeks old and only on one side. My egg is about 5 years old and I had to buy new bands and spring system. Is there a way to fix the handle without buying a new band and spring?

Look at the Grill Barrow it looks like it may fix your problem..

Sure hope you have a handler on it to start with.

Sounds like you need an all terrain mod - I did this to my small, and @Lit did it to his large egg (see page 2 of the linked thread).I would go with the Handler once you have the big pneumatic wheels on. The stock casters were not working out on the flagstone deck of my pool, but the pneumatic wheels work just fine.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX.
