bge pizza stone on spider

I don't see why not. Since my plate setter cracked, I've been using the ceramic grill store's spider/stone combo for my indirect.Packerland, Wisconsin

I'd just call Tom himself at Ceramic Grill Store and ask him. If he's had people tell him it works he will tell you, if he's heard the it doesn't he will tell you.
I raise my kids, cook and golf. When work gets in the way I'm pissed, I'm pissed off 48 weeks a year.Inbetween Iowa and Colorado, not close to anything remotely entertaining outside of football season. -
The stones at ceramic grill store are advertised to work for indirect cooks. MikeP624 says he's using a BGE pizza stone. I assume they are the same material, therefore would work fine, but who knows? Maybe the pizza stones are thinner, etc...and may not work/last for indirect??Packerland, Wisconsin

I just noticed this topic was posted twice. Here's my reply from the other post:
I've only done that with a BGE Large pizza stone in an XL Egg. CGS does not recommend using that stone in a LBGE: http://www.ceramicgrillstore.com/large-spider/indirect-set-up.html
The BGE stone is 14" vs CGS 13" and the difference apparently impacts airflow.

I just checked the diameter of the BGE pizza stone and Plate Setter. Here are both side by side.

Here is the place setter on the pizza stone.

You can see that the pizza stone is a good size larger than the plate setter. The plate setter is closer in diameter to the indirect stone from CGS. (I would have included my CGS stone but it is currently cooking in the Egg)

Try again

We don't recommend the 14" large bge stone on the spider, can cause issues with heat control and airflow out of the fire ring/box. We recommend at least 1" of open between the stone's edge and inside wall of the fire ring. Anything less can be to restrictive on airflow. twww.ceramicgrillstore.com ACGP, Inc.

Thanks for the info. I had to use the BGE stone because i had to many ribs to fit on just one cooking gird. It worked fine, i did notice that it took the bottom door being opened about twice as much as normal, and the daisy wheel being open twice as much as well. I could see how this may cause a problem on a longer slow and low for a pork shoulder or something where you are going 12+ hours. As the ash builds the restricted air flow could be a problem. But for 6hrs it worked good.
