New Egg in a cart designed and built from TML

Been saving and planning for years and finally pulled the trigger on a large egg with many toys. After looking through all the plans on-line they were all to big, to small, to clunky, to... Ended up designing my own. Started looking at what to make it out of and leaned toward one of the readily accessible weather proof exotics (cumuru) that I used previously. Went to my lumber dealer to look at that or cyprus and found something even better, thermally modified lumber. It is southern yellow pine baked to point of being bug proof, rot proof and dimensionally stable. It was nice to work with and makes the shop smell pretty good. The color you see is its color. I'm told it will weather silver if I don't put anything on it or I can coat to keep this way, hane not decided on that one yet. Price point was just a bit below the poly decking products. Here is how it turned out.

Of course being a custom size there was no stock cover out there so I found some outdoor fabric and made my own:

Thanks. We have actually had a very mild winter (Michigan). Got our worst snow storm of the season the week I want to go pick this thing up wouldn't you know. GK59, answered on the other thread but for those here, no glue just weather proof pocket screws and carriage bolts. Considered glue for the half lap joint where the legs cross but it was nice and tight, the carriage bolts locked it up rock solid. Easily supported me (about 1.5X the egg) so I was happy.

Beautiful, simple, elegant design. I'm shamelessly thinking of stealing your design. However, hope you don't mind me asking or take it the wrong way, I'm wondering how easy is it to access the lower vent, to adjust, poke the lump grate holes or remove ash?

Canugghead, Access is not at all bad for vent adjustments. Not sure I could get BGE's ash pan in there but I may fabricate my own just to avoid the mess on the cart. Feel free to steal, I would be honored.

I like it, what is the size of the top? Looks like you have about 24" on each side of the Egg?

Really like the design. Very innovative. Perfect for a townhouse yard like mine. What is the brand name of your UML? My dealer sells Cambia which I believe was the first one. It is Poplar and is a lot blacker in color. Your yellow pine should wear like steel. I would also like to know where you got your cover material.

Top is 29 x 48. The lumber is Ecodeck (5/4 x 5) and Staytru (2 x 6) from the same mfr. The legs are the 2 x 6 which are milled with a slight arc that doesn't show well in the pic. The rest is the decking. Fabric is from a local fabric store and is about same as used in a typical school back pack but is weather proof and has a thin rubberized backing. Got lucky and found a 6 yard remnant on clearance. Fabric, nylon strap (handles) and outdoor thread ~$30.

Well she finally got dirty with the first cook last night. Beef ribs, drizzle of worchestershire, salt, pepper, rosemary and thyme. Four hours at 250 with hickory blocs then an hour at 350. Oh my, they are soooooo good.
