Warranty Woes

One of the reasons I got large BGE was that I figured it would replace my weber, it has a lifetime warrenty and I wouldn't have to buy another grill.

However:

40$ to warranty the lid when the glaze chipped off

90$ to replace the lid when the glaze chipped off again and the firebox split

unknown how much to replace the fire ring now that that split, and just noticed the bottom grate that fits in the firebox folded in half.

Anyone else have trouble like this? I freaking love my egg. It's 4 years old and I thought I took rather good care of it. I don't typically disassemble it, so I'm guessing this is all heat/cooling related.

I received a cast iron grate for xmas. That makes me super happy. Having a lot of fun breaking that in.

I am with fishlessman, why the money. Get you dealer just to put on reg shipment and don't pay the extra.

I don't own a egg but those prices you mention doesn't sound like enough for a replacement lid $40/$90. Are you giving the money to your dealer? Sounds like he is scamming you.

I have never paid for any warranty stuff. As mentioned above are you paying for shipping instead of having it shipped with your dealers orders?

I am guessing the money is shipping? Send parts to a local dealer for free.

+ 1. Sounds like shipping costs. Maybe they shipped it directly to you instead of to your nearest dealer with their order????

I'm with you all. I had 1 warranty repair when my firebox and fire grate cracked and my local dealer submitted the paperwork and my items were included with their next shipment. No cost to me at all.

Another vote for they either shipped it to your house or your getting hosed. Warranty is free replacement in BGE case.

Bottom grate folded in half? WTF is up with that. I've been using my egg for 15 years. My grate is exactly as it was on day one. I can't picture one folding in half.

Wow. Is this from getting it up to high temps for cleaning purposes? I get mine up to 700 all the time for steak searing, just not for any length of time. And I've never done the high heat cleaning thing.

i burnt a few up and made my own later on with a higher temp alloy for real high temps. i dont think its high temps per-say, i think maybe from burning smaller amounts of lump instead of keeping the egg full/ keeping the burning hot lump closer to the grate

Haha. Mine was about a third that bad which is why I just replaced with high que. Impressive work right there. Somehow I managed to do that to mine in a little over a year.

Touch wood I have no issues, my dealer said not to clean all the ash out of the bottom as that protects the egg from extreme heat. I haven't been fanatical about getting all the ash out and I haven't had trouble with either getting and controlling hot fires or low and slow ones.
