New LBGE owner - first up, brisket

My wonderful wife got me a LBGE for Christmas and finally got to crank it up. The recommendation by the family was a brisket for the first outing. I have read many of the posts regarding grillin a brisket and thanks to all. I feel as though it should be no problem after y'all's input. I have a 6# that just went on. Will post pics later. Glad to be part of the club and I can already see the gas grill starting to rust.

Here's the pics. Turned out a little drier than I would have hoped but the taste was good. Family enjoyed it and requested it again so I can say it was a success. Happy New Year everyone!

That was a brisket "flat" and there is not anything out there much harder to smoke and have it be moist.

Cen Tex is the resident expert, maybe he will come along and give you a graduate level course.

Unfortunately, flats were all local store had. Live and learn. Would it have helped to place the brisket directly in the drip pan at some point along with a healthy amount of beer/onions to help retain the moisture?

Any air plane landing you can walk away from is a success-same with a flat. If the family enjoyed it...Congrats on wrestling with a challenging cook especially given you went the hard road and didn't wimp out with the braise method. Many more hit or misses with your brisket future (personal knowledge) and if you can score a packer even Cen-Tex will adopt you! Happy New Year!!

Ha Ha Cen-Tex. Very astute observation.

Congrats on the new Egg, very brave first cook. Flats can be difficult especially if the meat processor removes too much of the fat. Next time when cooking for a crowd a pork butt is much more forgiving then a brisket but you already probably know that. Congrats again and welcome to the club.

Dawgonfire:I see your Ms State Logo....where are you at in MS? I live in Brandon. check out Sams they have some pretty good packers.

@lovetheegg: I'm actually in Maryland. Grow up in Jackson/Clinton and graduated from MSU in '96. Where I'm at in MD, I have to drive about 30 min to get decent cuts of meat (it's all about seafood here) and decided to make the quick trip to BJ's (like Sam's).. Glad to see fellow Mississippians on the forum. Hav a Happy New Year.

Brave to do a brisket for your first cook. I suggest a pizza with homemade crust next, another hard cook, for your next outing.

Welcome and make sure you try a Spatchcock chicken once. It quickly became my go to cook when we have company coming over. Easy to do, and very very good!
