Thank God we're free so don't have to make this choice! But if I had to, I would take a second Egg. You can always use an old hubcap to go indirect. Thermapen close second place.
If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you're gonna see some serious shit!

Priorities man! I told Wilma we're getting a small to go along with our large and that's final! OK, for some reason she went along with it because I'm not wealthy. The point is I got a pair!

I guess I'm not understanding why the thermapen is so valuable. I have a wirless thermometer. I don't have to even go out to my deck to see what temp my meat is at the remote tells me right in the kitchen.
I'm not knocking the thermapen but I guess I don't understand how it's superior to a normal wireless kit.
@Stargazer, the Thermapen is the only way to tell if a steak or chicken breast is cooked, assuming you are doing more than one. If you have 30 wings on a grid, the Thermapen can tell you in less than a minute how they are all doing, your food probe can't tell you about any of them. It is a different tool for a different job. The value is the <3 second accurate reading. You don't have to hold it with a glove or pair of pliers waiting for it to read.
Wireless probe is great for a pork butt, but when it reads 195, is the whole butt there? Thermapen confirms temp anywhere in the butt in seconds. It is a great tool.
Legally, it's questionable; Morally, it's disgusting; Personally, I like it.

Thank you for the explanation. Makes a ton of sense to me now. I do a lot of roasts on my egg so I get a lot of use from my wireless probe. I'll have to keep and eye out for them on Amazon and look for a sale.

The best you are going to find is the $69 open-box deal they do every few months. Otherwise, used on ebay/craigslist. If you have Amazon Prime, you can save on the shipping and usually grab it for $89. Basic colors only, though. If you want one of the Special Edition ones, I have only seen them on the thermoworks site.
