Dome Thermometer upgrade?

I have been fighting with my dome thermometer.. I calibrated it about 4 weeks ago and rechecked it yesterday because it just not seem right.. It turned out to be dead on in boiling water though.. I have seen 100 degree differences between my digital and dome temps.. Is this normal??
Either way, is there a dome thermometer upgrade anyone could recommend?
Thanks!

How old is your Egg? I have went to all Tel-Trus.Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Plus a couple Pit Boss Pellet Smokers.

Get a maverick. The therms IMHO are worthless. When in doubt add more pepper.

Doesn't matter who the manufacturer is-if it's calibrated and holds calibration then it's good...chances are you are measuring in different locations and that would lead to different readings. FWIW-Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

Mickey:
My egg is 2 months old,
GLW: i already have a maverick (which I love for lower heat cooking/smoking)
lousubcap: i was afraid of that lol... I am really still learning. For instance, last week i just couldnt get the temperature to get above 400 degrees. After a while i decided to throw a whole dump of new coals on top, and sure enough, after 10 minutes it went all the way to 700!
Thanks for the suggestions!
