Any secrets to predicting how long it takes to cook butts. I have done several long cooks at the same temps with different time results. My last 7lb cooked to 195 in 10hrs and now i have s 7lb at 179 degrees 14.5hrs into the cook. Both using digi q set at 250 grid and both were in the upper 40's when put on bge.

mine take 14 hours, pretty much hit it most times. i cheat and raise/ lower temps 2/3 way thru the cook
  • Each one is different, never know how long it will take but 1.5-2 hours a pound will get you in the ballpark.

It is done, when it is done.  That is an age old Q saying.  The good news is ALWAYS plan to get it done early because with the FTC you can hold it for hours.
