BGE Pitting

Burned my gasket this week so I started the replacement process this morning and after removing the old gasket and scrapping off the leftovers, I noticed pitting around the rim of the lower half of my Egg. Is this an issue or just cosmetic? Anyone else have this? I have attached 3 images showing the pitting in 3 different areas along the rim. Thanks

Ps - in the first image it does look like a wart but focus for a bit and then it will start to look like a pit and not a raised area. Nasty looking I know!

Haven't yet replaced the gasket but I have cast ceramics. Looks like bubbles in the slip when it was cast. I wouldn't worry about it.

I think those are just cosmetic. From what I understand it is caused by the small bits of moisture in the ceramics when being fired in a kiln. (I know the egg I am working on has them). But I could be wrong lets see what others say ...

Just finished the new gasket install. One thing to add, the pitting didn't show up on my last gasket install so it happened sometime in the last few years.

Air bubbles, water drops, who cares? If they were just below the surface they may have opened up over time and use. Little thin places over the pits look fine out of the kiln. Open and close the dome a few hundred times and perhaps they finally break and reveal pits. Not to worry. If it works, it works. If the whole thing cracks, warranrty claim. Still not to worry.
