Deep Dish Pizza Stone

Picked one up today at the store. I do pizza all the time on the regular stone. This will be a first. Anybody had success with the deep dish stone?

I've never heard of such a thing. Deep-dish pizza cooks for a long time and the surface it rests on really shouldn't make much of a difference (its baked in a deep metal pan, usually).Can you post of pic of it? I'm intrigued..._____________

The mothership sells a deep dish pizza "pan", not a stone. A dealer rep was using one at an Eggfest last week and he made a beautiful looking pizza. I didn't have a taste, but it sure passed the look test.

Years ago Pampered Chef sold a PAMPERED CHEF STONEWARE ROUND DEEP DISH BAKER 11". It's about 1 1/2 inch deep. Fortunately my wife bought one and we still have it. Will have to try deep dish pizza in it. Haven't used it in years. You can find them on eBay every so often for about $20.__________________________________________It's not a science, it's an art. I would like input on anyone who has used this already.Is is hard to get the pizza in there since you kind of have to preheat the stone so you clearly can't make the pizza in the stone then put it on the Egg or can you because it is deep dish and takes longer to cook?

No preheating. It's like baking a pie...takes longer to cook

Was really easy to prepare. Just put in the crust and then added toppings.

I love my deep dish stone from BGE. Well only used it once with a 5 meat stuffed pizza and it was amazing.

@Deaconkav how was the texture? I've never had a za that deeeep before! I can only imagine it is more of a traditional pie, pie. I.E steak n ale type?

@jay75 top crust was perfect. Bottom was just crispy enough. You could have picked it up and took some bites or gone fork with it. I just went with the stuffed pizza from papa Murphy's and it was great. With being so thick you don't have to let it heat up, it's thick enough.

Yes - Oven temps will be less than egg temps. I use a Pampered Chef pie plate sometimes. As we all know PC pizza stones do not do well in an egg - the pie pan works just fine.
