chips or chunks doesn't matter. just use the same amount of chips as chunk wood, and you'd be fine.

chips, chunks, etc. it's all good. no need to soak them either

Not an expert, but I've found chips will tend to flare a little more than chunks when the dome is opened. As long as it is closed, there does not seem to be difference, as Phillicious noted above, wood is wood.Once you get the wood on the fire, keep the dome closed and chunks or chips perform about the same, at least with hickory I've used.Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad!

Listen to both BGD and HCE. They speak the truth. In fact there are few others that match their level of knowledge.

I use both. If I see chips that I would like to try I buy them and the same goes for chunks. I place chips as stated in earlier posts in similar quantity to if I were using chunks. So as the fire moves out a little bit the unused portion gets smoking.

I have used them both and they both work. When I first tried using chunks and it seemed to me that chunks didn't burn up as quick as chips. So I have continued using chunks.
