Good Calories, Bad Calories

I've been seeing a lot of posts about "healthy" foods in here lately... I thought I'd throw out a great book I read last year which has completely changed my perception on what "healthy" is.

Like most of you, I previously looked to the governmental recommendations about low fat, low cholesterol, etc. guidelines -- and what you hear from doctors. However, if you look back in history and the science that went into those guidelines, you'll find that ... there wasn't any real science involved! Politics and ego were highly involved, however.

The book is called Good Calories, Bad Calories by Gary Taubes http://www.amazon.com/Good-Calories-Bad-Controversial-Science/dp/1400033462/ref=ed_oe_p. It's not a diet book, but a science history book that goes into great detail about the progression of science that has gone into both governmental recommendations as well as the obesity epidemic. It's not light reading, but it's highly persuasive and an incredible read.
