Family still lives in San Antonio.  I lived there for 10 years, but moved to New Orleans 21 years ago and never left.

Awesome. Glad you had a good time. It's one of our favorites and now you know why. Not the best bbq in the world but the whole package is hard to beat. Plus, it's BYOB so on a saturday night you just haul your own cooler or blender (for margs) in there and have a good old time for cheap.

You in San Antonio tonight as well?

Glad you are having a good time and Texas is treating you well.

I think Salt Lick is a place everybody should experience. More for the ambiance, the location and the visual of those open pits. That being said, knowing that the meat is smoked in gas fired pits in the back with some wood for smoke and then "finished" out front for show kinda takes away from the whole experience.

Last time I was there, I specifically asked that my brisket was cut from the point and not the flat. The waiter said, "Sounds like you know what you are talking about" and then brought me dried out shoe leather. When I finally got his attention, he asked if something was wrong and I explained. he said, "yeah, I thought it looked wrong" Then why did you serve it to me? Last 3 times have been strikes, if it wasn't for the company, it would have been a waste. Take the time and drive to Lockhart or Luling.

I will be hitting Lockhart this weekend, Blacks or Kreuz Market. Last weekend was at SaltIck in RoundRock and was very good but not amazing.
