My Egg didn't come with a ceramic top, I've always used the daisy wheel to put out the fire.Never missed it._____________

the daisy will put it out. it's just the ceramic top won't rust if left out in the weather long termed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante

I am guilty of egg abuse myself. Tucked the egg in nicely one evening. Went to uncover it the next day and forgot the ceramic top was on and yanked the sheet off. Looked just like your picture. :( had to buy a new one...........

those covers cause more problems than they are worth. if i had a table, i might protect the table with a cover. but can't think of a reason to use a cover on just the egg itself.
one dude's acts as a sail and launches his egg in a high wind, others find the ceramic cap yanked off and smashed, and many find it holds in moisture.
those covers are dangerous

Have to agree with stike. The bad out weighs the good to me.
-
I concur with the anti-cover crowd if there isn't a wood table involved. Ceramic is basically glass - which is about as durable as it gets to water/UV radiation.

While on the topic of ceramic tops, I recently replaced my felt gasket with a High-que Nomex and used the left over for the top. Has anyone heard of any drawbacks of doing this?

Sounds like a good idea, as long as there isn't enough friction were you'll get a cork-gun effect...
