Hello Eggheads! My father, who passed away about 2 years ago, left me his Egg. I am trying to replace the seal and am having lots of trouble removing the prior adhesive and determining what color the ceramic actually is...can anyone help?! THANK YOU!!

If you are talking about the gasket, you can normally scrape it off with a razor and remove the adhesive with acetone. I also lightly sand mine down to the ceramic which is off white. Once you see the white ceramic, you are good to reapply a new gasket.Keepin' It Weird in The ATX FBTX

The ceramic is white. I used a $15 Harbor Freight die grinder with a 3M polishing pad to remove the dried adhesive. Took about 10 minutes. Scraped first with a razor blade.

I used alcohol and a scraper, I scraped and scraped and then felt I did a good enough job. There was still some discolor but my new gasket is sealed just fine.Seattle, WA

I used a dremel with a polishing bit after I scraped with a razor scraper.

acetone and a razor scraper does a good job.

I've been using acetone and a putty knife, I assume I need an upgrade on the "scraper". I've been applying the acetone with a toothbrush per someone's YouTube video and while I have seen a little progress, I'd like to see more. I will try a grinder or a sander, I was afraid I would harm the ceramic! Thank you all for your input!

I wouldn't use a grinding wheel, you'll start removing the ceramic. But a sanding wheel on a grinder would probably be fine. If you start seeing white dust, that's your egg.

I use a sander with some light grit paper once I scrape most of the adhesive off. I've used putty knives before and it's worked with Acetone. Razor knife works better thoughKeepin' It Weird in The ATX FBTX

Try using this. 3M 9099DC-NA Large Area Paint and Rust Strippe. I know several people that have used it.

go to lowes hardware and get the scotch brite 6" pad for your electric drill, strips it off and doesnt damage the ceramic
