First paella!

Egged my first paella tonight. Didn't get the perfect soccarat that I wanted, but it was very good nonetheless. And it was a lot of fun working on the egg. I installed my high cue grate tonight as well. That along with the looftlighter sure make for a fast easy start.

Sorry for the picture quality. I was in such a rush tonight I didn't have the time to grab the regular camera.

Nice job. Is that the recipe by Norberto Jorge from the Naked Whiz's site? Lot of work but oh so rewarding.XL, Large, Small, Mini Eggs, Shirley Fabrication 24x36 Patio, Humphrey's Weekender, Karubecue C-60, MAK 1-Star General, Hasty Bake Gourmet, Santa Maria Grill, Webers: 14" WSM, 22.5" OTG, 22.5" Kettle Premium, WGA Charcoal, Summit S-620 NG

Yes. Although, it was my first time so I omitted the artichokes, green beans, chick peas, and I used jarred roasted red peppers. Just to save a little time and money in case I burned the whole thing to a crisp. Next time I'll def add the artichokes and chickpeas. -

Good job! I love paella but have never tried cooking it at home. 10Driver, What size Egg do you have? What size Pan is that?
I have a LBGE and on Whiz's site he says that a 13.5 in. Pan is the largest that will fit. Has anyone tried cutting the handles off to make a larger pan fit?
-
I have the 13.5" pan from Paellapan.com. There are other pans out there with handles that go straight up and down or you could cut the handles off or bend them. There are definitely ways to make bigger pans fit.
-
Thanks....I think I'll order the 13.5 pan. I will be the perfect size fr my wife and I. If I really enjoy making it then I'll go for the biggest pan I can fit on the large. Paella is great food to share with guests.

looking good, love the garlic in the middle idea

I have this one. It measures 15 1/2" The upturned handles allow it to fits the large easily. Typhoon of the UK

I did a seafood paella on an xlrg last fall. The pan was 24" including handles and it worked great, just the top would not close the last inch or so. No big deal. Meal was great.
