How do I get plate setter out in middle of a cook???

So I want to cook something indirect and then finish direct for a few minutes. And there was a time I wanted to cook something indirect that took awhile, then while it rested cook something direct that doesn't take long. Other than buying a 2nd Egg what's the easiest way to remove a plate setter to continue a cook?

Here are the steps in order:

Figure out where to put a hot stone after holding it for less than 5 seconds.

Open the egg and remove the cooking grate & food

Remove the plate setter with heavy gloves and put it in the place you figured in step 1

Put grate and food back

+ 1with the gloves-and good balance if you are bringing a drip can with it...you have a set-up here to convince the SWMBO you need another BGE. May want to see how it plays!

there is nothing that says you have to use a platesetter as an indirect setup, a simple pan and a second grid is all you need to cook indirect. save the platesetter for pizza and bread cooks where you need more thermal mass

I use Ove Gloves. Got a pair online for about $20, and they work great. Do have a plan as to where to put it, though.

Before I got my Woo, I just used a pair of heavy leather gloves. You still need the gloves when using the Woo, but it's much easier.

a pair of good and thick gloves and a non combustible surface. I have the BBQ bravo gloves and have done it multiple times, you can definitely feel the heat, so make it quick

I took my plate setter out once, put it down on the concrete driveway. Couple of minutes later I heard a crack and the damn thing split in two. We only had it for a few weeks. Took it back to the egg store and they replaced it no questions asked. Must have been defective, and the thermal shock of cooling down caused a fracture.

Make sure you move it quick, I burnt my ring finger good over the fourth. Held onto it just a little to long and didn't want to drop and break it either.

Get the new PSWoo. It comes with handles for lifting the grid and platesetter out of the BGE. Still need the gloves but you don't have to handle the platesetter over the fire and it is really easy.

I grab mine all the time with just leather work gloves. But I am very QUICK with planned movements!! And I feel the heat when I sit it down. Going to invest in welders gloves but this is working fine for now.

Be careful with the drip pan. It it drops liquid on the hot plate setter... See attached pic

I use welders gloves. Just picked up a new pair from Lowes $15.00 Also pretty spiffy looking as they are bright red.
