cooking small on an extra large egg

Hello out there,

I recently retired and my wife bought me an extra large BGE (bigger is always better, right)? I mostly cook for her and I and the amount of coal im using is killing me. Any suggestions?

how about a couple fire bricks in the bottom of it to bank the coals to one side? I'm almost positive thathttp://shop.ceramicgrillstore.com/categories/XL-Big-Green-Egg-Set%2dUps®/XL-Accessories/ has a reducer ring and angle iron brackets. Just some options!

Tell your wife a small or medium egg will cost less than the charcoal you are burning up over the long run. Time for egg #2.

I cook small on my XL more than large. Just need something to divide the lump, heck just pile a small amount at the back. These aren't the cheapest solutions, but I like gadgets.

I'm not sure why you would use that much more charcoal. If you are only cooking direct for one you would only light the charcoal in one place and cook over that portion of lit charcoal. Once done, shut off the damper, put the top on, and you really shouldn't be using much more than a medium egg.

Just cook 2 or 3 meals at a time them just reheat the next few nights.

For searing, you can use a cast iron grate on the Woo2 so you are cooking closer to the charcoal. That would save charcoal as well.
