Evacuation equals good bbq? I hope so.

So as many of you know i live in colorado Springs... We had a very small fire turn huge and my family was evacuated.. So we decided to take a road trip to visit family and hope our home is still standing when the fires out.

So what dies this equal? Were looking for bbq places in the Kentucky, Virginia, northern florida region... Sincer were hitting up those areas. Specifically lynchburg va, Louisville ky, talahassee fl.

Bono's in Jacksonville (Fl) is a classic, go to the original location on Beach Blvd. (And though not BBQ, Beach Road Chicken Dinner in Jax is awesome.)

Your area has been in my family's prayers. I can't imagine packin up and leavin my home not knowing if it will be there and knowing a fire is coming.

Where are you now on your trip? Got some great BBQ places in Memphis Tn if you get close.

Doesn't sound like he is going there.. from Tallahassee, Jax is like 5 hrs east. If he is going up coast he can do a triangle drive and save time. A^2 + b^2 = c^2 lol

I hear Silver Pig BBQ in Lynchburg is pretty good. I think it's NC style. Give it a try and let us know...I've never been there so can't say for sure.

Review of silver pig.
Pretty good cue, i had pulled pork, hush puppies, and slaw. The meat was really amazing it was spritzed with regular vinegar(which was suprisingly good) the slaw had some kick which was a nice surprise as well.... Now ive heard of hush puppies... But i always figured they were a type of shoe. I frickin love thses little fried guys. So good

Side note:
They just do pulled pork, no other meats

@ mountaindewbass-I do hope that when this journey ends, all is well on the homefront. I'm in the L'ville, KY area and saw your post yesterday PM. I tried to come up with a "Q" stop worthy of one who makes exceptional BGE "Q". Nothing came to mind-as you well know, when you produce BGE quality "Q" it's tough to beat. Safe travels and enjoy all the "Q" stops along the way.

I was working with some customers at a corporate retreat at Cheyenne Mountain Lodge. You could see everything from there. Not a great week to be in COS. 103 degrees, 30mph winds and the whole place on fire. Air quality about like Shanghai. Nothing compared to what you and your family and neighbors are going through though. mine was merely an inconvinience. Yours is real life.

Yeah its nuts. The fire is getting contained and all structures should be spared... Minus the 364 that were already lost. Im just thankful nobody broke into our place when we were evacuated. Both of our neighbors were vandalized. It was bad, they called in troops to protect the homes.. From fire? Nope from thiefs

Yeah. Now were on a fun road trip. Were in VA for the next week. Then Florida, then back home to colorado springs(fire/smoke is supposed to be done by the 13th or so)

You should make the drive down to NC to try some real BBQ. You are close...relatively speaking. We buy vinegar by the truck load down here. Also, in addition to some truly outstanding pulled pork, you can order hush-puppies or Mac-N-Cheese as your vegetable. Doesn't get any better than that.

Sometimes you can even find banana pudding as a vegetable.

If you make your way to Pensacola,Fl try Arlene Williams BBQ on Mobile Hwy carry out only and in a

rougher part of town but Arlene was a Deputy in Dade County and she will not allow any problems. She and her Husband Denby cook up a fantastic BBQ along with traditional Southern Sides, Cracklin Bread, Collard

Greens, Baked Potato Salad, Mac and Cheese,etc.
