Got my egg to 350 sitting pretty for half an hour . then put on a dozen chicken thighs temp dropped to 300 and after 15mins still at 300 hundred i've noticed this a few times that it doesn't recover is that normal or do i need to open the vents more ?

    A big part of it, I think, is that the dozen thighs are absorbing a lot of the heat that was warming the dome probe before you put the food on.
