I needed more cooking space for my large BGE being the frugle person I am I spent about an hour and $9.00 in materials to use an old smoker grate to increase my cooking space, great for corn, potatoes, etc. I also did not like my side tables they get nasty and are hard to clean I purchased a couple cutting boards (black) and mounted them, I have cooked on them about 5 times they work out great cost about $$20.00

What material is cutting board made from?
I assumed you just drilled in same place the shelves were?Boom -
Hard to tell from your pic with the 2 bolts, but I use a grate with 3 stainless steel bolts at 120 degrees that are attached to the top grate and they just lift right off the bottom grate when need be. Maybe that is what you have, but the pic is hard to tell..

How many inches does that raise the second grill?
I saw pictures of someone mounting bamboo cutting boards as wings. Using cutting boards Allows for a much bigger surface area to work from.
