I was too late to save this one. My Uncle got this waaaay back when they used to use these as ballast for airplanes coming back from Japan.

I'm really bummed. I needed to expand my capacity since we started doing competitions. I'm going to have to get a WSM now to get the capacity I need.

If anyone needs a large dome, I'll sell this one for 100.00. Oh...and I'm referring to the dome you can barely see to the lower left. The bottom is obviously done and in the dumpster. The dome is in great shape and is resting in my garage.

I could have saved it? Dam. Actually there were 4 or 5 other cracks. That was the first one that fell out.

The only thing I can think of regarding ballast is that back in the 50's the planes needed a certain amount of counter weight if th weren't enough passengers or...I have no idea...that's just what he told me.

Used as ballast as in using lobsters as ballast coming from Maine. Just a free way to gettum home.
Ask an old aviator, he'll tell you.
