About 1 out of 10 I get to open by pulling the right strings and it comes apart nicely. The other times I just end up tearing it open. What's the secret?
Please Help!

Just cut the bag with some scissors or a knife

+1 with Mike8it-I flunked string in kindergarten...Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

Easy. Please forgive me if I get technical. I have an engineering background, so I can't help it.First, find the loopy, knotty thingie and cut it with a knife. All farm boys, Eggheads, and 11B Infantry MOS guys carry a knife, so that should be no problem.Find the other side of the bag.Zip it off. Easy peazie.__________________________________________Dripping Springs, Texas.Just west of Austintatious

@ Village Idiot-another group of knife carriers (and may include lots of Eggheads) are those of us who have logged many laps of the sun. Knife seems to eliminate lots of the attempts to legislate against stupidity (which you can't do) in packaging-not meaning to hi-jack here:)Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. If the loopy thing is gone, just imagine the back stitch as a bunch of "greater-than" signs. Pull the string from the "greater-than" end, and from the front (single stitch) side...

@lousubcap. I'm sorry, I don't know what you're talking about. Can you explain?__________________________________________Dripping Springs, Texas.Just west of Austintatious

I get flummoxed by the ol' string, too.

Well, I'm in the upper-end (top 2-3%) of the age population as noted on a recent thread here-(laps of the sun-takes a year for each of us to make one) and figured out a long time ago that you can more easily get to the contents of a package by using a knife than more discrete and time-consuming approaches. Scientific enough for me.Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

You have to be prepared.
I tried using my Looftlighter to open the bag, but it didn't work well.
Actually I usually use a utility razor knife to cut the loops as I open the top up.

I burn the ends off with my MAPP torch, then pull the string on the single side.

If you're man (or woman) enough to have an Egg; you should always have a good sharp knife in your pocket...
I man enough to rip a couple layers of paper if that is all that is standing between me and a good steak. )Cooking on an XL and Medium in Bethesda, MD. -
are you saving the bag tops and strings. i dont see the need to make three messes, rip it open, cut it open unless your from the mid west making a giant ball of string
