First attempt at baby back ribs on my new XL W/Pics & Video

Here is my first attempt from just about the start to finish. A few pics, and a link to the video. It was my first video so take it easy on me.

 image

This is the setup, BBQ GURU DIGIQ, Beer, and my baby indirect on normal grid.

[]image

Ribs after being rubbed with some mustard and dizzy pig dizzy dust with applewood smoke. (apple from a tree I just cut down and chopped up.)

image

After about 4 hours at 260.

 image

This is the plated finished product. They were juicy, and smoky. Great ribs indeed! My wife does not like and never eats ribs at all. I made her try these and she responded "wow, those are actually really good!" Mind you I have cooked ribs like this on the old grill and she never liked them. The BGE has opened a stubborn womans eyes and made her like something she previously hated. What else can it do?

Here is a link to the video, not sure if it will be viewable just yet, but give it time.

Nice looking ribs, but now I'm jealous at all that real estate! I'm gonna have to show that one to the Mrs after cooking 2 racks this weekend.

Thank you taz, there is a good amount of space on that thing without needing to use another setup. I have the v rack in case, and can put 2 on there. But I have not needed to use it yet.

Thanks a lot! It was great, I am new to this pic/video posting, but I will continue to do it as I have learned a lot by watching/reading others experiences.

Open your eyes to good beer.  :-c
Seriously, good BBQ deserves a step up from Coors Light.  Check out the Beer thread.  I'm sure there are some good ones for you to experiment with in the list. :)

HEY! Let me see you drink 14 beers while outside cooking. I like other beers, just can't drink them for the long haul. Lol, I like coors light.

As an admitted total booze snob, I still have to side with Jason on this. American light lagers are built for mass consumption. I mean how many Dog Fish Heads can a guy pound in one afternoon? I can get about 2 of those down and I need a nap. I rarely drink beer anymore (Tito's for me) but if I'm out fishing, golfing, or hanging out with the fellas all day, I can rip through some garbage light beers. They have their place.

What do Coors Light and boats have in common?

They're both damn close to water!!  =))

I kid, I kid. I like a good beer too, but usually limit it to the first 2 or 3, then light beers work for me. Ribs looked great till you put SBRs on them, but that's just a matter or personal preference. I don't like that sauce, too sweet for me, but to each his own. Nice lookin' cook.

I have and never will take a case of magic hat or guiness and the boat, but last night my buddy did bring a case of Coors light on the boat.

Great looking cook!  I love the video.  I have the XL and have done five racks on it without a rack or anything else.  There is plenty of realestate.

    Thanks

There are some decent pilsners and lighter beers out there for hot weather.  I'd rather drink a few good beers and have water/ice tea/soda the rest of the time.  Drinking a ton of beer on a hot day w/o any non-alcoholic beverages will wear me down too.

If I drink 14 cans of anything I'd better be with 50' of a toilet at all times.  Between drinking and pissing I would not have time for anything else.

You know what you get if you mix yeast with a septic tank? Coors Light.

    Ribs look great.

If that is the case, I've got about 2.5 years worth of sh*t to mix with yeast!

Agree on the beer. Hot outside day calls for Coors light or Miller light for me. Setting around socializing in the late evening with friends calls for Yuengling. The ribs look great! I have started making my own drip pans with hd alum foil. I just tear off a 3 or 4 foot section and double it over, rolling the edges up about an inch. Shape it to the platesetter or just big enough for whatever your cooking. Saves tons on throwing away pans.

Great looking ribs & good job on the video. If I am power drinking I choose my old buddy Natty Light, if having just a couple after work or before dinner.......Maker's Mark please.
