Replacing my XL Dome - Need Advice

As some of you may remember (see pic) my XL dome began to peel extensively. Bruce at BGE immediately said we should replace so today I was able to stop by my dealer and pick up the replacement (by the way, dealer gave me a brand new SS grate for my trouble...great guy).

My question is, how do I replace this thing given the fact that I have the springs that assist in picking up the dome? The guy said to just loosen the the top tension bolt in the back (the carriage bolts that bend when you tighten).

My concern is that when release the tension on that bolt the tension ring on the egg will fly up in the air because it will no longer have the weight of the dome holding it down. Am I crazy or right?

Ok not sure about the XL, but the L came with some white plastic pieces to lock the hinge while assembling them.

Open the lid disconnect springs then close it. Change out dome. Open dome. Reconnect springs. They will have no tension on them when dome is open.

Removing lid on an XL couldn't be more simple, as you only need to remove the springs with the lid closed and then loosen the top band bolt, like stevesails said above.
