Anybody Knows where to get best deal for Portland, OR?

This is my first post and it certainly won't be the last one. I am so eager to get my first Egg and hoping for a large one. I am looking for an experienced Egger on this forum from Portland, Oregon to point me to a direction to the place that has the best deal. After some researching, I'm able to get is over a grand for just nest and shelf to the Large BGE unless someone here knows how to get the cheaper, alternative way to hold the Egg to bring me to 850 dollars. I am trying to find one for under a grand and I know the medium one would bring me under it. The thing is I'm 26 years old and I think it is awesome to get a lifetime grill so it has to be a large one for me.

  • Well, I'm not in Portland but I can tell you that I looked for a year before I bought one. Not one showed up used on craig's list or Ebay in that year (a very good sign that people love them) and I couldn't find anybody that said a bad thing about it That's the good news. Now for the bad news: There are no deals to speak of on the egg. You may be able to get a few few accessories from someone or something like that, but the price of your egg and it's branded accessories are going to be pretty consistent wherever you go. BGE does not allow discounters or internet sales so they control the retail prices across the country. Knowing this, I would find a shop that it close to you and that you feel comfortable with. You'll be working with them for years if you stay in the same area so I say find someone that carries all the cool stuff you'll want to add as you go

Once I bought my Egg (full price) I couldn't believe I waited so long. I've used it 3-4 times per week for 7 years and I never get tired of it. If I had to give you advice, i say save up and get a large. You'll have it forever and you'll use it all the time. If you have to buy the egg first and then get the other stuff a little later, do that. All you need to make awesome food and start to learn is the egg (and somewhere to put it). Everything else can come a little later. Good Luck and I know everyone on here will agree that you have found an awesome cooker!

Thanks, appreciate the response. It pretty much have make it more clearer for me to understand the standpoint of the retail price for an Egg. I'm still hoping for a Portlander on this forum to response for the store to suggest to get it from with the great access to the accessories and etc. About the nest and shelf, it is crazy to pay extra 200 dollars to just hold the egg, but I will if it has to come to this point. I am wondering if there is any cheaper alternative way to hold it with the solid protection to it?

Also, I am tall so cooking it on the ground is not an opition for me. Maybe some stacked concrete blocks or something?

Call or e-mail Don at the Pool & Spa House in Sellwood. He worked with me forever until I bought my egg in January.

Contact him now! Send me a message if you want contact info, or just use Bing.

  • Nice to see someone else from the area - and I wouldn't call myself an experience egger, just a rook. Still, Don was fantastic to work with.

They get you on the nest for sure but it's either that or a table. I would not stack it on blocks or anything else that would allow it to tumble. It's best just to bite the bullet and have somewhere safe to put it (nest, table, etc). I went through the same process as you but I got an egg and a table and never looked back.

Butwhymalemodels: how much did you have to pay when you got your egg from Don? I am looking for a large one with nest.

The Cen-Tex Smoker: I understand, I thought it would be bad idea too. I guess I am trying to squeeze out the possibility of getting it cheaper than it would be for me. I think I will bite the bullet and under a grand would be making it sexier purchase for me.

Speaking of Costco, I saw what from afar I thought was an egg on Friday at my local Costco; it was a different brand though. It was funny when a guy walked up with his wife and said "nope, not an egg" haha.

Yeah, ha. It was vision brand,

  • I'm in Portland and I got mine at Pellet Stoves and More on Hwy 213 in Oregon City.  Price for LBGE was $750 and was almost $100 cheaper than other dealers I checked with in the area.  I didn't get the nest or any accessories because I built my own table (see thread in table section) and will be going with an adjustable rig (instead of the platesetter).

I did have to wait for the egg to be ordered and delivered -- took about a week.  That was fine since I was still building my table.

Thanks for the tip, I hope they still sell it for that price. Your table is impressive by the way.
  • Check and see if any dealer is going to have an eggfest any  time soon in your area.  The dealer usually has a dozen or so new eggs they use during the eggfest and then sells them at a discount after it is over.  They are only used once or twice.  Almost new a few hundred dollars cheaper.

  • The Portland and Clackamas Costco stores both have MBGE's for sale with nest for $579.

I won't give a number, but I will tell you that I feel I got a better deal (doesn't mean lower price) than that on my large & eggcessories from the Pool & Spa House. I think you should give Don a call.

For the real? What I saw at costco is the vision brand one. Thanks for the tip with Don and I will check him out.
  • If you can wait until early June, I just bought a MBGE, used, a couple of hours ago. I need it for one cook on June 9, then may sell it for what I paid for it.

I saw on the BGE Facebook page that there is a guy selling a slightly used large Egg for $700. He has some pics included to look at. This was just posted yesterday evening.

If I am buying an used one so how should I inspect it properly?
  • Im new to the forum but not the BGE. I got mine at Hometown Hearth and Grill on 82nd across from Stuff.  Bought the Large for 799 but they had it there so i could take it away then.  I  buy all my charcoal and accessories from them.

I also saw the one at Costco. they had a medium and this one was a BGE

    @inkyon

Have you seen this one on Craigslist for $700 (large, nest, placesetter and side tables)?

  • tazcrash - there is an unlimited lifetime warranty with any purchase through Costco - except some electronics, which have a 90 day warranty.

The warranty isn't provided necessarily by the manufacturer, and I think that's what you're trying to say.

BGE purchased through Costco = lifetime warranty.

    butwhymalemodels,
yes thanks for clarifying, a Costco warranty, not BGE warranty, but I don't think they can get you a new firebox, or gasket. You can only return for refund.

Yep, I bought it last night even it came with the gripper, ash tool, cover, and the lifetime warranty because the dealer never registered it so I registered it today. It is in an unbelievable shape, but the place setter needs to have a cleaning with all the gunk. I'm an official egghead now and I will have the first cook this weekend. Thanks everybody for the tips.
  • I would check out the Portland Eggfest and get one of their demos.  Its almost $200 off... www.eggfestpdx.com
    It's Saturday June 16th!
