Ok, I liked the idea of the Hi-Que turbo grate instead of the cast iron plate that comes with the egg, but had to start putting a limit on accessories. So I broke out my (cough, cough) weber smokey joe (the small portable one), and the charcoal grate in there is the same diameter. I threw it in there, and lighting for me now is a breeze by putting the oil soaked paper towels in the bottom through the ash door, and turning the whole egg into a chimney starter.
I will say that by looking at pics, the Hi-que one looks like thicker diameter steel, and will last longer. I will be getting one from them also so I can still use my smokey joe for travel. But it was nice to try before I buy without spending more money.

Lighting from the bottom works with the OEM fire grate too. I bought a Hi-Que when my OEM grate started to break up (lots of cracks). The Hi-Que works...and can't clog, but the lump brands I've been using contain too much small stuff, and I kept ending up with large piles of lump bits in the bottom of the egg, and I think more ash and incompletely burned coals that fell through. I finally just went ahead and got my OEM grate replaced by a local dealer and removed the Hi-Que.

I saw a mod to the existing fire grate on the another forum and I have done that in lieu of the hi-que, I felt too much falls thru.It has been working great on my large for months now. Hope the pic show up.

I use in both Mini's and the Large. Still like very much.Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Plus a couple Pit Boss Pellet Smokers.
