Indirect - why a pizza stone?

Just curious why most people are using a pizza stone for their indirect setup. Is there a reason why cast iron wouldn't work the same?

Indirect can be done with anything that blocks the radiant heat from the fire. So, yes something made from cast iron would work fine. Most people have a pizza stone, so it's the first thing that pops into mind to use, I guess.

I have a 14 inch lodge camp dutch oven and I have used the lid for an indirect piece many times. Works great.
