Firebox repairs?

My firebox has been cracked for several months, and on Friday I noticed that it's now almost in two pieces. I was still able to cook this weekend (about 12 lbs of pulled pork for a buddy's party. Everyone loved it), but I think it's time I replaced the firebox. I called BGE yesterday and they're going to ship me a new one. They don't charge for replacement parts, but I do have to pay for shipping. I'm wondering if I'm going to have to buy a new firebox each year, and pay the $25 in shipping every time? I'm not trying to put down their warranty policy - I know the firebox is not light, and shipping is not cheap. But, to avoid having to replace it again, I'd like to try fixing the current one to use a a possible future replacement. Has anyone ever fixed one?
