Dome Therm Not Right

So I know my dome therm is off because when I go outside it shows it below zero which obviously isn't right. Anyhow, how do I get it right to the temp or is just shot? I know best way is to stick it in boiling water but when it doesn't register 212 then what do I do?

Loosen the nut on the back of the dial, you can adjust - then tighten. Make sure to check after you re-tighten, sometimes tightening can make it slip again.

So I should take it off the egg, put it in water, then tighten the nut to get it to 212?Large BGE

Stick in boiling water and if it not reading 212 (at sea level) turn the nut until it reads that...do this while it's in the water. Not sure what is meant about tightening and loosening. Turning the nut moves the needle, nothing is really tightened or loosened.

Lmao! I just got a visual of someone running with a pot of boiling water to the egg and trying to stick the attached probe in the water underneath the dome.
Just a hack that makes some $hitty BBQ.... -

I meant that take it off the egg and then I will be tightening and loosening when in water....Full thought in head didn't come complete in post Large BGE -
