i'm an avid bbq/smoker guy. after years of research and listening to friends that own a bge, i finally pulled the trigger on an xl egg. with other rigs i've always cured the inside before cooking my first time. coated it with olive oil that kind of deal. can anyone tell me if this is necessary with the bge? this forum is awesome and i'm very fired up to be joining a group that appears so enthusiastic about the bge! any help would be appreciated.

No curing of inside necessary.....a few lower temp cooks are recommended to cure the gasket, but chances are you'll fry it anyway, so might as well jump right in with whatever you feel like cooking.

What MQ said. Cook some food until your egg is black.

The egg will set itself...dont use any oil in it...just get to cooking! Your are gonna love it....

don't even think you need to season any cooker for the first cook

You might as well plan on investing on a nomex or Rutland gasket. You'll probably burn the factory gasket within a few high temp cooks. Unfortunately it's pretty normal.
