What's a used medium egg worth?

In relatively good condition, with nest and two arms? The daisy wheel looks a little rusty. Older model with the older style (non-spring) hinge.

Have a large already and love it, thinking of buying another for lake cabin. Local retailer wants, for a new medium egg, $599 plus $120 for nest plus $69 for arms for total of $790 plus tax, said they would knock $50 off of it. Also, can you fit some half racks of ribs on that thing? Sometimes I wish my large was an XL, but I'm beginning to realize you really can throw a lot of stuff on a large and there is nothing wrong with it touching.

I'm guessing you are buying this used from a non-dealer. Check it over real good for cracks. The warranty is not transferable.

Yes, buying used. It is on craigslist for $460. Also has a pizza stone but no cooking grate. Haven't seen it in person, but the pictures appear to give it a decent condition. I can tell it has the older nonspring style hinge. Other than that, not sure how old it is. Seems to me not much should go wrong with these?

im thinking 150 would be fair, that egg is pretty old and mediums are not the biggest sellers. a couple hundred more and you would have a new large demo egg at a feast with lifetime warranty

this all depends, on how frequently eggs come up for sale in your area. i have seen that bubba tim site about what eggs cost, and it frankly is worthless because its just one area. also, the new costs are way off compared to what they cost in my area. its really hard for a diverse group in different areas to say it is a good deal or not. a used egg costs what people are willing to pay for it, and that price might be correct for what he has listed it as. i have found that any egg that i think is a rip off tends to be gone a few days later to someone that didnt see it that way ..

Thanks to all for the info. I am thinking it is overpriced at $460 but if it is in good shape might be worth $350 or so. Is the old hinge an issue at all, or does it not matter? Also, how can I tell if it is so old that it is a clay egg and where would I look for a seam in it?

If you are talking about the one in Nashville it is not clay. The clay ones were lighter green. There is a medium just posted today on Atlanta Craigslist 2011 model only used a couple times for $450 with nest. Take a road trip because the newer band is worth it. A friend of mine has the locking band on his large and it works fine but is kind of a pain is you are used to the spring.

Talking about the one in Nashville. I would buy the one in Atl if it were closer but I don't have 6 hours to drive to and back from ATL and it would cost $100 in gas to do it and at the end of the day it could be gone anyway. I may call a few other dealers and see if I can get a better price. Unbelievable that a dealer here would quote me over $200 more for the same thing a dealer in KS would quote - and the dealer in KS would throw in some extras. Oh well. Maybe if I find a dealer in a more rural area I can get a more reasonable price?

I bought a medium a few months back and paid $505 for just the egg. The dealer, now closed, said he sold the nest for like $89.

Not sure if that was some sweet deal or not but i would say that $460 is a bit much...$350 like some others have said would have been good.

I bought my parents a medium for their retirement gift and paid $340 for it with a plate setter and nest with a spring band and a new fire box. I added the composite shelves, cast iron grate, and recently a woo. If your not in a hurry keep watching craigslist or offer the guy $350 like you said.

My new medium back in November cost $683.73 including tax. I had: a nest, a vertical turkey roaster, plate setter, electric starter, and a bag of lump but no arms. The before tax price for the egg itself was $450.00. Our sales tax is 7 %. I understand that there was a price increase latter for the units with the stainless grates.

it's gone from craigslist so apparently someone offered him what he wanted, or close enough to it to get the deal done. I may call a few other local dealers and see if any offer a more reasonable price. I really want an egg at the cabin but probably can't justify the $750-800ish being quoted for one. If I could get that number down to some of the deals people are quoting in this forum post I would go for it. Otherwise it will be a cheapo gas grill for a couple hundred bucks and when it is done in a few years I'll reconsider. Guess I can keep an eye on craigslist, too.

I loosened the bottom band enough that I could slide the side of the band up enough to get the 2 screws into the band facing out. Just have to slide it up an inch or so on each side and then retighten bottom band. They connect the same as the mates so it's basically 4 screws and nuts.

large $300 (without nest) - sold immediately (duh!!!)
small $250 (without nest) - did not sell, so owner kept it
large $850 (with custom table) - did not sell

In Pensacola, FL they're selling new Larges for $629 plus tax. In Dothan, AL and Panama City, FL they go for $829. I didn't price any of the other sizes in Pensacola but I assume they sell them all around $200 less than average.

Wassi's Meats in Melbourne sells them pretty much at cost. I got an Extra Large, with nest and wings, and $50 worth of meat for $1,000.
