Thermometer 40 degrees off?

I just set up my egg to smoke a pork butt. The temp on the thermometer said it was 250 but when I put my meat probe temp gauge on the egg right next to the pork butt it registered 210. I callebrated the thermometer last time I smoked ribs and that was less then two weeks ago. Does anyone else have an issue with the factory issued thermometer?

Dome temp is always higher than grate temp.

When a receipe calls for a certain temp I should go by the dome temp and not the grate temp?

The temp that most people give you is the dome temp,XL Walled Lake, MI

That is normal when you first put the meat on. Temps will come together as the cook progresses.
