Word of advice. Buy some stainless steel locking nuts--you need 4-- to add to it for insurance. It will cost you less than 4 greenbacks. You should like that you need that advice because you seem to be anal retentive.

Talk to the gang at the other site. The clique are the ones who recommended it and I can attest it works well. No worries about the band accidentally coming loose. Stainless work just fine and has for me for years on the Egg.

What the hell is going on? Y'all damn confusing. Bands didn't slip. Was adjusting the top. When I tightened the corner of the 90 on the top band broke the little piece off. Probably gonna weld the nuts on tomorrow. Get it TIGHT!

Besides the felt "seals", the bands/bolts of the BGE are something that are of questionable design, at least to the Mechanical Engineer in me. The assembly instructions direct you to torque the bolt/nut down until the bolt actually bends, and that has never left me comfortable. That band can go from Zero degrees Fahrenheit to over 100 F during winter use, and metal has a much higher coefficient of thermal expansion than ceramic.That being said, my bands have never come loose during any winter cooks (or any other time), so maybe they know something I don't..._____________
