Digi Q Ramp Mode

First time using the Digi Q 2X ramp mode. Doing a couple of 7 to 8 lb butts for the Super Bowl. Started last nite about 7:30 PM, about 8 AM this morning the butts got to 177 F (don't know if it broke through to plateau or not), ran out of fuel, reloaded and started again. Butt cooled to 165 F. Got the XL BGE back to 225 F.
Now I've got the Digi Q set on ramp mode Pit at 225 F, Food at 200 F. I hoping to stretch out the cook till early afternoon. When the meat hits 200 can I just leave it on the pit till I'm ready to remove it or will it overcook? I'm assuming the Digi Q will reduce the pit temp to 200 thus the meat couldn't get any higher.

That is indeed what ramp mode should do. You should also know that you can wrap those butts in foil and put them in a cooler with towels for insulation and keep them hot for 6-7 hours. Good luck!

I would set the DigiQ to 225 and turn Ramp Mode to 'off'. Then, just pull the butts at 200 on your own and store them foiled and toweled in a cooler to rest prior to serving. The butts will stay piping hot for hours. With 16lbs of meat cooking slow, Ramp Mode could slow the cook enough to cause dinner to be late. Never a good thing. No need to risk it if you are home managing the cook live.

Not sure why you ran out of lump with the guru. I've cooked at least 50 times and have gone 36 hours without refueling, that with a large bge. If you've got a large, fill it up to the top of the ring, lite fires in three different places and you should be good to go next time. The Dude: This is a very complicated case, Maude. You know, a lotta ins, lotta outs, lotta what-have-you's. And, uh, lotta strands to keep in my head, man. Lotta strands in old Duder's head. Luckily I'm adhering to a pretty strict, uh, drug regimen to keep my mind, you know, limber.Walter Sobchak: Nihilists! *uck me. I mean, say what you want about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude, at least it's an ethos.

That was my first thought too...with my large - filling up the box with lump - I have never even come close to using all the lump. I have the Cyber Q and the next butt I smoke I am going to try out the ramp mode just for giggles. -
I have the same unit. It worked real good. On my first butt on the BGE 5 days ago. I had to leave for more than 3 hours. I got back the BGE is at 225 and the butt is at 198. When I left the butt was 192 the BGE was 260. I was willing to ruin a 11# butt to see if all worked as said? It did. On top of all that, I slept through the night without having to baby sit a smoker. Soooooooo Goooood. The ramp mode works as it says.Located in Western North Carolina
