Customizing the BGE

I am in the process of getting custom made handles and a custom ceramic damper top for my large BGE. I was just curious to see if anybody has heard of or seen anyone that does decals for the egg. I would like to have a collegiate decal made for the dome but do not know if this would be possible due to the heat and/or warranty. Any advice?

I would also worry about the heat bakeing it on. In my short 6 years here never came up.

Here's an Oklahoma State custom job that someone posted a while back. I'm not sure what paint you could use that wouldn't flake or bake off on high temp cooks.

In the automotive world there are numerous paints and coatings that can easily handle the exterior temp of a BGE. I just don't know which would stick to the BGE's exterior surface.

Probably can use a chemical deglosser, something like acetone, but I'm just speculating as I have not studied the finish on the egg to know its properties.

the finish of an egg is essentially glass. it's glazed and fired ceramic, after all. not paint, not an epoxy.

I actually posted this a while back, but I'm not sure you're referring to mine or a possible repost. It's actually PGA golfer Hunter Mahan's rig and I'm sure he threw down some dough for the coating. I'd love to find out where you could get this done or what it would take to accomplish it.

That paint job is sweet. Too bad I don't have Hunter Mahan's money to get mine done with the NC State logo on it. I will post pictures of my handle and damper cap as soon as I get them.

I am now in the process of starting a custom table for my egg. As stated I have ordered a custom handle from Danny, a custom damper top from Lara and now I just got finished talking with Dan at http://www.customcuttingboards.com/index.html to do a custom cutting board that will insert into the table me and my buddy are making. I have to say that one the BGE bug bites it bites hard!!!! The only downside to this is my girlfriend is starting to feel neglected (and my bank account is taking a beating). Can't wait to get all this put together and post some pictures!!!! I saw a thread tonight about cutting boards and I would suggest you check out Dan's website if you are thinking a out purchasing one. I believe he can customize them just about any way. Mine will have the NCSU Bell Tower logo on it!!!!
