How much action does your lump reducer ring get in your xl ?
I can definitely see the benefit of using it with a spider for searing. Also for cooking a couple of burgers.
What other scenerios do you use your lump reducer ring for ?

I have an xl and I use my reducer all the time. Especially good with spider for searing. I put the cgs stone on top of the spider and use for indirect. I haven't used it for an overbite but no problem going 5 hrs with lump left over.

I use mine all the time, only take out for longer cooks but could probably get away with leaving it in.

I use mine for EVERY cook.  Never comes out.  I've never found a piece of meat that took longer than the reducer full of lump.  If you don't have a bottom grid attached to yours, I'd strongly advice it.  It makes shaking the ash off the old lump out really easy after each cook.  This way you are starting "clean" for every new cook you do and every cook is consistent.  I had an old weber grid in my garage and attached it with a couple of split washers.  Works great.

Has anyone observed a significant reduction in lump usage after they started using the reducer ring?

Very interesting ! So you can do a 18-20 hr 250 deg. cook with a reducer ring full of lump ?

Your reducer looks different than the ones sold by CGS . Is it the same size ?

I just measured mine, it's 14" in diameter and almost 5" tall. It came from my old "Weber Smokey Mountain". CGS says theirs is 14-14.5" in diameter and 3.5" tall.  So mine might be a little smaller in diameter but a little taller.  Very rarely have I cooked anything that takes 20 hours so I can't say for sure but 15 hours definitely.  If I'm doing what I think is a really long cook, I'll stack the lump as high as I can above the rim (a couple inches probably) and I always make it.

Can you please let me know where to get one? I'd love to use it for pizzas!
