Firebricks?

I am going to cook some ribs today using the indirect method. I would like to make a firebox but only have regular old masonary bricks. Will these work and is there a differece between these and "firebricks"? Will there thickness be and issue? Got to light the fire now so please help soon. thanks

Iamthe, there is a big difference - no masonary bricks! You may want to consider changing from indirect to direct for today and look for firebricks before your next indirect cook.

If you want to do them cooking indirect use a drip pan to shield the ribs from the coals.

Yeah, JJ and Gfw are right on. Don't do it.
You could set up an indirect setup with a drip pan, or pizza stone if you have it. Good luck with the cook.

Iamthe, Firebricks are usually found in a fireplace shop and are usually a yellow or light color. Color is not the issue though, but they must take the heat. Firebricks are the special bricks that line a fireplace or wood stove. You can get them full thickness or 1/2 thick. 4 bricks 1/2 thick laid flat form a great barrier; 2 full bricks on their sides raise a grid up and offer firm support.
